hi,

However initially i want to know y the system bcomes damn slow with linux? System Configeration: Memory is 64M and the Hard Disk partition space is 4 GB. P III processor.

Can anybody pls tell me how can I improve the system and slowly migrate from windows to Linux for day to day usage?

I'm still a newbie, but here it goes: I think you may need some more memory. My little server at home (a dual P-III, 1Ghz) has 512MB of ram, and when it starts up it will fill almost half of that. With normal day-to -day usage, it will fill that up and go into swap space. Hope this helps!

1. turn off unnecessary services and daemons
2. set hard drive DMA mode with hdparm
3. if running kde/gnome, seriously consider switching to fluxbox, windowmaker, enlightenment, or another lightweight window manager
