System freezes

I think my problem is hard disk related, but I'm not sure. I'm running RedHat Linux 8.0, but for some odd reason, it crashes ever other day or so. I haven't added any new peripheral devices, or installed any new software. I don't know where the logs are, or which logs to check to get more information about why the system freezes. I usually have to manually reboot the computer to get everything running again....on a couple of occasions, I've seen the following error on the console screen before the computer powered down for reboot

"i/o error : dev 08:05, sector 1292448"

I've also seen similar messages like the one above.

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing the system crash? I know I haven't given a lot of information, but if needed, I can provide additional information. Also, any ideas of any .log files that can give me some clue as to what's happening before the system crashes? I apologize in advance if I'm posting to the wrong forum

Any strange noises from the hard drive(s)? Clicks and buzzes indicate failure soon (if not already failed) and any important info should be saved to another HD and the drive replaced with a good 'un.

Your error log is usually at /var/log/messages. Peruse it for hints.

One thing that Linux is picky about is memory, so the first thing I always check out is ram with memtest86.

Do you have good RAM? Memtest86 - A Stand-alone Memory Diagnostic

have you tried remounting?

More importantly, have you run a surface scan on the disk?

I don't hear any knocking noises though, and I don't see any amber lights, or something else that would indicate disk failure.
I ran afacli disk verify /repair=true.....everything ran smoothly until yesterday. I ran it again today...and it froze again less than an hour after the scan. I was logging out of a session when I received this error:

bash: /root/.bash_logout: Input/output error

I'll check /var/log/messages to see if it gives me any more answers....I also run memtest86 too

Thanks
