Synaptics Trackpad too slow - reset at boot

Hi,

since a while ago, my trackpad has lost its acceleration functions, i.e. if I move my finger fast from corner to corner, the pointer doesn't travel faster than if I move slowly. Thus, the pointer always stays at the lowest speed, making pushing it around a pain.

To fix this, I installed gsynaptics, ant everything seemed fine; after fiddling with the controls for a bit, the pointer was agile again. Unfortunately, when I just booted, all the options was reset (including "disable tapping" etc), but the settings in gsynaptics were still displayed the way I left them.

Furthermore, the sliders controlling pointer speed were still at the same place, but although I had increased min speed and accel and decreased max speed, they now seem to define the problematic behavior described in the beginning. I. e., if I now want to have the same behavior as I had last boot, I have to increase min speed and accel again and decrease max speed - and I can only do that so many times until min speed = max speed and accel is maximised. (Hope you could follow me there.)

So, my question is: What is resetting my gsynaptics? And how can I disable it, or configure it to make the changes permanent?

Thanks,
Vinter

What distribution are you using? Sidux? (now aptosid)

If so, try installing the package 'udev-config-aptosid', this usually fixed my synaptics problems.
