With windows, I would never upgrade a computer's motherboard without also re-installing the operating system at the same time.
Is it the same with linux? My linux box has a very old mobo and I now have a spare mobo that is much faster. I can't be bothered to re-install/re-configure my system again but it would be nice to be able to swap in the new mobo.
make sure you have kudzu (assuming Redhat here) running, and make sure you reconnect the harddrives in the same order (primary, second, etc) to keep the partitions in the right place.
You many have to haggle with new on-board devices (sound/nic) that are on the new mobo to get driver support - but no more than you would in a new install.
If you're running lm_sensors, you will have to tweak that as well....
