No. The only time swap is needed is when your system demands push RAM past its capacity, and the system is forced to write memory pages out to the hard drive. In other words, if you consistently overload RAM (the usage stays at 95%-100% for extended durations) then Yes, you need a large swap partition, otherwise it's just using up disk space. For the typical home PC, with 256Mg or 512Mg of RAM, I'd set up a 256Mg swap space and forget about it. You should check your current swap usage - as pAn1k mentioned, unless you are frequently exhausting it today, adding more won't make any difference.
