Suse9.3, Sound Problem

Hi Folks!

I can't persuade my Suse9.3 making some noise, aehm, I mean: do multimedia ;-)
I tried everything with Yast, which recognizes a sound card, but the Test-button
does not produce any sound. So I read older threads in here, especialls the one
"Sound Issue, SuSE 9.3 IBM Thinkpad", which is really helpful, and switched to
ALSAconf.

I did as described, deleted the sound card in Yast, logged out, logged in again,
configured with alsaconf (no errors, it recognized a sound card), used alsamixer,
adjusted it, did an >alsactl store<, loggend out and in again - but still no sound.

If I put a music CD in, run kscd, it shows that the CD actually runs - but no sound
(yes, speakers are plugged in and switched on ;-).

Can anybody here help me?

Some more background info: the machine with this Suse has an additional system
installed (Windows XP, I know .. :-( but sometimes I unfortunately need it :-((. When
I boot XP (bootmanager is grub) sound works ok with XP. So the hardware must be
set an connected properly. The sound is made by an on-board chip within the
motherboard, which is an Intel D915GEVLK (High Definition Audio).

I don't know what more I can do ... I'm fighting with this since hours and hours ...
is someone here who can end this fight with a victory??
Please do not answer: "just use XP"! ;-(

Hi again!

In my first post I did not wrote what lspci tells us, so
here we go:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
spci | grep -i audio
0000:00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)
0000:06:02.0 Network controller: AVM Audiovisuelles MKTG & Computer System GmbH Fritz!PCI v2.0 ISDN (rev 02)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Does this enlighten the problem to a sound expert in
more detail? I'm still hoping to get some noise out of
my Suse Linux box.

Wolfgang
