Suse 9 Pro and ATI Radeon 8500 all in wonder - black screen

I had some trouble getting the 3d enable at first but I managed to get that. Now I am having a problem where anytime I open a game the screen goes black and nothing really works. Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't restart but I can do Ctrl+Alt+F1 and get to another login. But that doesn't help me play any games. I have no idea what the problem is or where to even begin for fixing it. I have pretty much a fresh install of Suse 9 that is updated. Any help would be useful.
