SuSe 9.1 Printer problem... seems to be wanting to use parrallel not usb

Dear linux friends,

I'm trying to enable a driver for my HP DeskJet 882c. This printer worked beautifully under SuSe 9.0, but i'm having trouble getting it to work under 9.1

here is when i disconnect:

usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 2
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed

Yast doesn't seem to detect the printer, or want to install a driver for it. How can i do this? thank you for any help!

Hi exabrial - I am having the same problem with my usb HP 7350 Photoprinter after upgrading from SuSE9.0 to SuSE9.1. It used to work fine in 9.0 but in 9.1 Yast does not detect it.

I just ugraded 2 days ago, so have not really investigated the problem, looking to see if you have found a solution to the problem

My initial thought is that some of the usb modules are not getting loaded at startup due to the way the the 2.6 kernel handles modules (to which you might say - duh!)

I was able to configure my HP Photosmart printer using CUPS administration. In your web browser go to:

http://localhost:631

Type in the admin userid and password - If this is the first time you are using this facility you will have to set up an admin userid using the following command:
lppasswd -g sys -a <username>
it will ask for a password and confirmation.

Once you are logged in as an admin, go into the option to add a printer - put in the device where to find your printer - which appears to be /dev/usblp0 in your case - put in additional info on the remaining items and you should be good to go

Good luck!
