Suse 9.1, Dlink DWL-G510, and ndiswrapper

I am new to Linux, and I am having a horrible time getting my wireless card to work.

Here is what I have done so far:

1) I installed SuSE 9.1 Personal.

2) I opened the web browser that came pre-loaded. Of course since the wireless card was not recoginzed, I had no internet connection.

3) I did a quick google on my wireless card (using another computer) and I found out that I needed to use the ndiswrapper to make it work. I also found that my card fell into this:

Card: D-Link DWL-G510
* Chipset: Marvell W8300
* pciid: 11ab:1fa6
* Driver: (Link removed because I am too new to LinuxQuestion.org)
* Other: Works with WEP and WPA with TKIP cipher. May need iwpriv wlan0 ndis_reset when changing essid.

4) I downloaded the rpm, and saved it to a shared drive.

5) I restarted the Linux machine and booted up in Windows.

6) I moved the RPM from the shared drive to the Linux box

7) Restarted the machine and booted up Linux

8) Installed the RPM.

9) In the Terminal Window (as Root) I typed modprobe ndiswrapper

10) Next I typed ndiswrapper - i mvr8k51.inf (I am doing this from memory, so the actual file may be slightly different) ndiswrapper returned no message.

11) Next I typed ndiswrapper - i mvr8k51.sys (I am doing this from memory, so the actual file may be slightly different) ndiswrapper returned no message.

12) I typed in ndiswrapper -l. The message returned told me that the inf file had hardware detected. The sys file did not.

13) I typed modprobe ndiswrapper again (I am not sure why)

14) I expected the light on my card to come to life, but I got nothin.

What am I doing wrong?

Dave

I have the exact card in my Suse 9.2 box and it works great with the xp drivers and ndiswrapper, so we should be able to get you setup. What is the output of dmesg?

If the driver is loaded successfully, you should see a message in the system log
ndiswrapper version <version> loaded

I tried to get the dmesg output for you, but I could not write to the Windows HD, and the Linux install had no conectivity!

I decided to upgrade the SuSE to version 9.3, and the ndiswrapper worked like a charm.

HOWEVER, now the keyboard and mouse lockup.

Any ideas?
