Well after getting my nice shiny new computer and installing Suse Linux 7.2 professional I have hit a few problems with my display.

Suse 7.2 does not come with support for the nividia Geforce4 so I downloaded various packages off nvidia and suse so I can get my graphics card working. Though now I have installed everything, followed every instruction (though the readmes weren't up to scratch various portions of commands were missing) to the letter I cannot get my display above 800*600 and 8bit colour, never mind 3D graphics. Every time I use sax2 to change my settings the xserver will not startup so. After 3 hours of editing config files, compiling kernels etc.. i am fed up and could someone give me the obvious and rather easy solution that I'm missing.

My specs:

Motherboard: MSI 645 combo (sis645 chipset)
Intel celeron 2ghz
64mb Geforce4
suse 7.2 proffessional

First what kind of Geforce 4 is it? Ti or MX?
Also what version of XFree86 are you using? 3.x or 4.x?

Its a Geforce4 MX 440SE and i am using xf86 v4 though I can use v3 just as easily.
