I am a new user to linux. I have a problem.

On my first install of suse10 i was unable to logon to the system as the monitor turned to standby mode everytime.

I fixed the problem with sax2 by changing the refresh rate.

Now i installed ATI Rage 128 ultra Graphics card without preinstalling drivers and got nothing. The system showed the blue login screen and when i logon by giving pass it returns back to the same screen. However on giving wrong pass the screen shows login incorrect message. If pass is ok then it returns back to the same screen.

Then i removed the Graphics card and i am still unable to log into the system. I have a full 7gb install of suse and i am in no way interested for a reinstall.

Trying sax2 again didnt helped. However i am able to login to failsafe mode of the system.

I have a dualboot system with winxp with GRUB as bootloader.

Please help me out. I dont want to reinstall.

Help me if I misunderstood your post: You can see the login screen and when you enter your password correctly it does not log you in correct?

If this is the case, then I think the matter should not be with your graphics card.

If you can't solve your problem, boot your system from CD/DVD and go with the system check. The program will check all your system and make necessary "corrections" where needed. You will not need a reinstall.
