Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Suse 10.2 - Sound "one sound playing" issue

First time linux user here, just installed Suse 10.2, the sound itself plays fine, except for one thing. I can only use one program at a time that sends sounds to the card.

I like to have teamspeak, music, and sometimes games running at once, so obviously this can be a problem.

I looked around a bit, tried using ESD, but that didn't help (most programs don't have an option to select output device).

In terms of hardware, here's what YaST says I have:

Any help would be appreciated.

If you do not have aRts installed, this is what you need. There is a aRts damon that feeds sounds form several outputs to the sound hardware.

Here is a link --> http://www.arts-project.org/

It is probably available form your package manager.

There are already artsd objects registered, looking if they are active...

Error: Can't add object reference (probably artsd is already running).
If you are sure it is not already running, remove the relevant files:

/tmp/ksocket-ewhenn/Arts_SoundServerV2
/tmp/ksocket-ewhenn/Arts_SoundServer
/tmp/ksocket-ewhenn/Arts_SimpleSoundServer
/tmp/ksocket-ewhenn/Arts_PlayObjectFactory
/tmp/ksocket-ewhenn/Arts_AudioManager

[1]+ Exit 1 artsd
ewhenn@(none):~> ps -aux | grep artsd
Warning: bad ps syntax, perhaps a bogus '-'? See http://procps.sf.net/faq.html

So it appears aRts is running... but I still get issues with only one piece of software being able to utilize the card at any given time. I don't see an option on any for the software packages to output sound to arts, only OSS and ALSA. What am I doing wrong??
