I had experienced lockups with SuSE 10.0 and 10.1. It usually happened when I was using Firefox. I thought it was caused by FireFox but it wasn't the case. Then, I thought it was my ATI video card and its driver so I have switched to Nvidia (it was due anyway).
Still the problem existed. So, I thought it might be caused by the NIC card driver built into the motherboard.
I have downloaded the latest driver from http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethe...oaddrivers.php recompiled and installed it. The lockup/freeze issue went away!!!
The kernel updates do NOT pull down or include the new drivers (tg3) so you have to do it manually.

I am running SuSE 10 with Broadcom Tigon (5702) NIC and never had any problem with it; by the way, the driver you indicate is already in the linux kernel tree (2.6.19). The problem you describe is actually a kernel bug (race) corrected in the driver version 3.66 you mention. Thanks for mentioning it, I will have to upgrade soon too.
