Question Support for AOPEN XC CUBE EZ65

Thinking of buying of one of those neat little xc cube EZ65 minibarebones

It has the following specs

CHIP Intel865G/ICH5
CPU TYPE Socket 478
FSB 400/533/800
VGA CHIP OnDie(8x AGP)
SOUND CHIP AC97 5.1CH
LAN SPEED 10/100/1000
SATA Connector SATAx2

I will be using a maxtor 250GB as the SATA drive and an intel P4 3GHZ processor.

How big of a test will this be to install a distro such as suse or mandrake. Any non supported items that you think of?
Thanks !

Xc Cube

Have just installed redhat 9.0 onto the cube, the only issue I have at the moment is the NIC is not reconized by the OS. A brief search on the web shows nothing, open to any ideas at this point.

Have had the XC Cube EZ65 barebone for a little more than a month now. Works really well with Linux.

Started out with a RH9 distro because the old server suddenly gave up. Starting up the EZ65 with the old harddisk went well with no major difficulties except...

- NIC Broadcom BCM5700
- AC97 5.1 sound chip

Actually got both of these working by downloading the appropriate drivers

- NIC was downloaded from Broadcom www.broadcom.com where I found the BCM5700 Linux Driver Version 7.3.5 06/23/2004

- Sound driver downloaded from Alsa where I used the latest alsa drivers from www.alsa-project.org version A2.6

Compiled and installed these drivers successfully. If I remember correctly I had to fiddle a bit with the sound driver configuration editing modules.conf according to the documentation that followed with the driver distribution.

For other reasons I upgraded to Fedora Core 2. The sound chip was detected automatically but I still had to compile the driver for the NIC. Sadly I have experienced some problems where the NIC driver seems to hang. Have not gone into finding the source for this problems as I use a standard network card in the cube.

Hope this is of some help to someone. I really like my box except the CD/DVD tray that gets stuck in the Cube chassi whenever I try to insert a CD. Next computer will probably also be a barebone!

/Simpan
