Suggestion for a new motherboard for Linux Kernal 2.6

Hi all,

I want to buy a new DIY computer. And want to using Linux to be my second OS for build up a stable server with Fedora, RHEL, Debian, Gentoo etc....

But I have a bad experience on the motherboard, since my old PC is using ASUS A7V-133C motherboard, this board can't support Linux Kernal 2.6 .... and I had hear that other said ASUS's motherboard is poor support for Linux ..... do it really, if so, can here all Linuxer can give me a suggestion to choose a great motherboard for Linux?

P.S. I will from Intel or AMD platform choose one, so all Linuxer can give me both motherboard list ... 775 or AMD 64 platform only .... but with DDR 400 not DDR2 533 SDRAM, since DDR2's price is too high for me, I am just a unemployer from HK, bugget total for HKD 500 dollar to buy a new PC, with CPU, PCI Express card, 1GB of RAM, 160GB STAT HDD, + 480W Power Supply ...

And the motherboard better had two PATA control .... since I had two EIDE HDD, want to using them on the new motherboard too...
