Stupid Winmodem

Im trying to get this piece of crap Telepath 56k Windmodem to work in Redhat 9. I downloaded the right driver ltmodem-kv_2.4.20_13.9-8.26a9-1.i668. Its and rpm and when I install it nothing happens. I still cant detect the modem. I've tried rebooting but that doesnt help either. Please help been at this for days.

Well... in my own experience with winmodems (which is not extensive or intensive):

The driver creates a device that acts as a serial modem. So... the first thing is check where that device is... know what "file" it is. For example, I have my modem at /dev/tts/LTM0. I didn't create a /dev/modem symbolic link to it. So I configured wvdial (my now favorite ppp connection tool of choice) to use that device.
