Strange problem with dvb-t stick

Hi everybody. I bought a dvb-t usb stick with Realtek 2832u chipset and installed it using the driver at http://www.turnovfree.net/~stybla/li...l-dvb/lv5tdlx/

The driver works in ubuntu lucid and I scan channels and watch tv using vlc media player. However when I reboot it no longer works. It also fails to scan channels. And vlc gives a "cannot prefill buffer" error, meaning it cannot use the source device, although the device is recognized and and lsmod command shows that the modules re loaded.. The strange thing is that if I reboot into Windows 7 and play live tv for a few seconds, on my rebooting back into linux tv works again. So every time I want to use the card I have to boot into Windows 7 and back into linux. Can u please help me.

It must be a drivers problem - so maybe installing wrong linux driver or not all modules needed for it to work. Have you checked your kernel .config file and enabled all relevant options? Exactly what make of DVB-TV are you using? What does lsusb show it as? Specificity is really important for driver related problems. Maybe post what lsusb shows when it is working and when it isn't working in linux.

The brand is Goldenstick (I couldn't find a website for it) and the chipset is rtl2832u.

This is the output of lsusb when it works:
Code:
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 04f2:0833 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 1f4d:b803
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0d49:7350 Maxtor
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
When it doesn't work, the output is identical!

Also the output of lsmod | grep dvb is identical in both cases.

What does Windows identify the driver as?

Pretty certain it is a driver problem, had similar experience with DVB-TV-2go stick. Linux identifies it as Avermedia or C&E. Works ok in WinXP but not at all in linux. If you've covered all the other options in .config I'm stumped, except perhaps to suggest you try a slightly different realtek driver to the one you tried. Btw any error messages when booting or any interesting stuff in dmesg?

No, nothing No error messages. I wonder what effect booting into Windows can have on the device, because it always works after booting into Windows and then back into linux!

I think there is a difference between the linux way of turning off the usb device and the Windows way.
