Strange Iriver and usb2 behavior

I have a build in usb1x controller that has been working fine with my fc2 install, anything I plug in works fine, even my iriver.

I got sick of the speed barrier and got a nec (I think it's SIIG) 5 port usb2 pci controller. I plugged it in, kudzu told me all about my 3 new devices and I thought for sure it would work just fine. I plugged my compact flash reader in, and no problems at all, I plug my iriver in and this is what I get in the logs

kernel: usb 3-4: new high speed USB device using address 6
kernel: usb 3-4: device not accepting address 6, error -71
kernel: usb 3-4: new high speed USB device using address 7
kernel: usb 3-4: device not accepting address 7, error -71

if I plug it into the usb1 onboard controller i get

kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 2
kernel: usb 1-2: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub
kernel: updfstab: Using deprecated /dev/sg mechanism instead of SG_IO on the actual device
kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
kernel: Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: MK2004GAL Rev: JC10
kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
kernel: SCSI device sdb: 39063024 512-byte hdwr sectors (20000 MB)
kernel: sdb: assuming drive cache: write through
kernel: sdb: sdb1
kernel: Attached scsi disk sdb at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
kernel: Attached scsi generic sg1 at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0
scsi.agent[4918]: disk at /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/usb1/1-2/1-2:2.0/host2/2:0:0:0

and I can mount it as /dev/sdb1

the compact flash shows the following when I plug it into the usb2 card
kernel: ohci_hcd 0000:02:0d.1: remote wakeup
kernel: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using address 4
kernel: scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices

so, anyone that can help, please help. It's working but only in the usb1 onboard card. I know the usb2 card works, I've tried other ports, I don't know if that linux isn't seeing the usb2 part of the host controller? or if I haven't creaded devices I need to? I'm really stuck.
any help would be so great
thanks in advance
