Strange boot message & failure after hw install. Please help!
I've just installed a new matrox graphics card on my second machine. Before-hand it was running fine, having been used more of late due to my main machine blowing up (ish).
I came to boot, and was greeted with the following text on screen: Code:
CPU: L1 I cache: 8K, L1 D cache: 8K This is a scsi machine, with two harddrives. I used the scsi.s kernel for the slackware 9.1 install - exactly what I did the first time I installed slack. The weird thing is, if I stick in the slack CD and pass it the location of the root it'll boot into linux! I've no idea whats going on! I've been reduced to using my missus's laptop to post this message: all my boxes have died! Please help! This is getting urgent! |
OK, so I've stuck the old gfx card back in, and its working fine now. Other than I've lost all my installed programs and system settings. Luckily I've still got my work files; I always partition a seperate /home directory. Thank the heavens, if I didn't i'd be totally screwed! :s
However, there's still the problem of the matrox card. It works, because when I use the CD to boot it loads fine. Just not when I boot from the HDD. When booting from the CD, I use the following: Code:
boot: scsi.s root=/dev/sdb1 noinitrd ro But it just doesn't want to play ball. Can anyone shed any light? |
Ah, just had a detailed look at the card. The ebay seller said it was a matrox, but on closer inspection its a Jeronimo J2N. Posting seperate thread for correct information.
Thanks! |
