one cause might be vmware, it has alot of bugs, especially in performance... another thing: are you running a desktop sound server like esd or arts? if so, turn it off.
I had the same problem before enabling arts. I wondered if it would help.
Regardless, I have disabled it once again, and the problem continues...
The odd thing is I just played a game of "clanbomber" and the sound worked flawlessly, so I wonder if this is an amsn specific problem...
when I look at the amsn settings, the "sound server" field is configured as "play $sound" ($sound = sound file to be played). I wonder if the problem is here? Should it be a different command?
Okay, so I have installed xmms mp3 player, and am listening to my music just fine without a single flaw, so that tells me that it's a problem with amsn.
So now I'm thinking that this post belongs in the software forum...
Chances are one of the mods will move it there for me (hint hint)

Alright, I have discovered the problem and have solved it.
I was right by thinking that the problem was with the "play $sound".
I re-enabled arts and changed the field to say "artsplay $sound"
This also allowed me to listen to my music using xmms without any problems, but I had to use the arts output plugin in order for it to work correctly.
Not bad for a week-long Linux newb eh? hehe
Let me know if this was able to help anyone out, or if anyone has a better suggestion?
