I am not a newbie.. I'm even worse than that! But I am a CS student, so I'm not entirely stupid..

I recently installed Mandrake 9 from a friend's APC magazine. The 1st message that comes up when I select Linux at boot is this:

"PCI: Device 00:1f.1
not availble because of resource collisions"

I've had a look around, and I'm not the only one with this problem. Most other people don't know what to do. One guy suggested updating the bios. My guru friend suggested going to the motherboard site and downloading something.

Has anyone here encountered this problem? And did you fix it?

In the BIOS make the changes below:

1) CAS2 to CAS3
2) Change FSB to 100 or even 66
3) Set all hard drives to LBA
4) Disable PNP OS
5) Let BIOS look up IRQ
6) Set AGP to 2X
7) Let BIOS give IRQ to USB and VGA
8) Enable APM if you want your computer to shutdown by itself

You can always change CAS, FSB, and AGP afterwards.
