SSD (Solid State Drive) support under Linux?
 

What is the current state of SSD support under Linux? I want to upgrade but not if there's no Linux support for my ASUS dual boot notebook.

Hello,

I take it you are running ubuntu, correct? It isn't hard at all, and SSD's are definitely supported. And FYI, there is no "official" linux support for your notebook computer. Installing linux on it is on your end man.... Linux is free and open source, and there are no warranties, etc, that come with linux and/or support. The best support is online, and on these forums. If you want actual support for linux, you could always buy a license from Red Hat, which offers a paid service for support.

What's the model of your Asus notebook?

When you decide to buy an ssd drive, the manufacturer's website forums are usually very helpful (OCZ, for example, has even a linux forum section).

Check your notebook specifications first. It would be a waste of money if you bought the fastest ssd drive out there and your motherboard didn't support such speed.

Most netbooks work out the box with Ubuntu. The SSD's in them are usually connected as ATA devices and don't need any special drivers :)
