sr_mod for dvd drive to use ide-cd of old pata driver set-howto
Hai there,
I am using Ubuntu Feisty on one of the machine with 2.6.20-386 kernel on an intel HT 2.8Ghz machine.after installation the same problem of ide-pata dvdwriter detected as/or emulated as scsi by new libata drivers using module sr_mod and set device as /dev/sr0. So,I modprobed ide-cd and blacklisted forcefully(yes using /etc/modprobe.d/00.local) and added ide-cd to /etc/modules file.but still the device /dev/scd0 or /dev/sr0 are made by udev.So Is there any way to make Ubuntu udev and other systems to make ide-cd as the module for cdrom I know there is the kernel initrd image that too have something to do with sr_mod been used for my dvdwriter.but i need hdparm and to enable DMA,the old drivers. Somebody can help me?Thanks all. |
BUMP^_^ someone who experiment with priority of module loading please help me make ide-cd be used for my ata dvdwriter. :) please share the open source spirit! :)

Got some clues.while i had installed Ubuntu,my BIOS setting for harddisk was set to "auto".I changed it to "enhanced" means supporting all pata and sata ports.

If it is connected with a SATA cable, then you have to use the SCSI emulation, because of the way the kernel addresses SATA drives. Quote:

no i figured out that BIOS i have to select enhanced mode for pata support.so,still sr_mod is used.but i dont how to force use ide-cd.
yes.i have a ide dvdwriter connected with normal pata connector. while my hdd is sata.so i dont want scsi_emulation.after changing the bios setting to enhanced mode,live-cd detects and uses ide-cd module.but the ubuntu hdd installed does not :? sdparm-i have already tried and it automatically sets udma2 for the dvd drive.it is working OK.but still the old pata drivers which i want to use for dvdwriter.hence ide-cd.an lsmod |grep cdrom shows both modules are loaded :( Code:
36512 2 ide_cd,sr_mod |
some help :s
