spot any hardware compatability issues before i purchase?
I am going to be putting a server together in the near future and I am picking out my pieces. I want to make sure that nobody knows of any hardware complications with Debian etch 64-bit before I purchase. I have put the name and a link to the newegg page for each item in question:
mobo: ASUS DSBV-DX Dual LGA 771 Intel 5000V SSI CEB 1.1 Server Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131191 cpu: Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 771 80W Quad-Core Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117151 ram: Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 FB-DIMM ECC Fully Buffered DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Intel Certified Server Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134620 hd: Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (bare drive) - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136296 raid controller: 3ware 9650SE-4LPML PCI Express Lanes: 4 SATA II Controller Card RAID Levels 0, 1, 5, 10, Single Disk, JBOD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816116042 Also, does anyone know anything about this raid controller (or could recommend a better selection)? I googled it and people say that it "works" with linux. Does anyone know specifically which monitoring tools will work with this card from the Debian etch distro. I am going to do raid 10 or 5. I am leaning towards 10. Thanks =) |
Outside of webcams, wireless cards, and printers. Most hardware functions reasonably well under linux. Or at least functions.

Doesn't Debian have a list of supported hardware?

I have heard that 3ware raid cards are excellently supported on Linux. Indeed, a good number of lines of 3ware driver code are distributed in the main kernel package. I am jealous, and hope you enjoy this device.
Code:
jameson@salmon:/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.27-9$rgrep 3ware . Quote:

3Ware OS support
http://www.3ware.com/support/OS-Support.asp 3DM2 RAID management software can be downloaded directly from 3Ware.... http://www.3ware.com/products/raid_management.asp 3Ware would be (and has been) my choice for Linux RAID controllers. |
Thanks everyone. I am sorry if this info was around, but I've been looking around and couldn't find anything conclusive/recent info. I just wanted to be sure. Thanks again.
