Speedtouch modem

I am following the guide on getting my speedtouch modem to work http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/ on here. I am running xp on this machine and mandrake linux 10 on a different one. Would i just copy the data to the mandrake maching by cd. Also, the last thing says run the script as AS ROOT, what does this mean. Thanks.

"Would i just copy the data to the mandrake maching by cd?"
-I think your talking about copying over the "alcaudsl.sys" file, if so, yes, you can copy this by CD, or even better use a floppy, the file will fit on 1 floppy.

"...run the script as AS ROOT, what does this mean?"
-"root" is the name of the system administrator on UNIX style systems. You will have a root account even if you didn't create it yourself. To run this script I would open a virtual terminal, change into the speedtouchconf-dd-mm-yyyy directory ("cd speedtouchconf-dd-mm-yyyy"), then type "su". You will be asked for the root password (Mandrake should have asked you to set one during install), after you enter the password you will "be" root, type "./speedtouchconf.sh" (the name of the script might actually be "./speedtouchconf-dd-mm-yyyy.sh", typing "./speedtouchco" then pressing TAB should finish the name off for you) and follow the instructions. Don't forget to type "exit" when the script is finished so you are no longer running as root.

TIP: If it dosn't work try typing "modprobe -r speedtch" before running the script. This is because there is a kernel module available which interfers with the driver and you want to remove it first.

Also, if it still dosn't work and you are sure you've followed all the instructions you could try the latest driver from here: http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/in...wnload.en.html
They even have a mandrake package.

Phew! Too much typing... Post back and let us know how its going, I have one of these modems and I know what its like when you can't get connected :(
