Unhappy Speedtouch 330 (silver) problem on FC3

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to connect to internet with my speedtouch 330 silver without luck. I've got Fedora Core 3...
I'm trying speedtouchconf with rev4fw.zip firmware but i can not connect:

************************************************
* *
* speedtouchconf.sh by Steve Parker *

If you have any problems with this script, mail me
(steve at steve-parker dot org) with the files
/tmp/speedtouch.txt and /var/log/messages for diagnosis.
Using speedtouch-1.3-sgp
microcode is rev4fw.zip
PPP version 2.4.2 okay.
Linux kernel version 2.6.9 okay.

you are missing the module usbcore
i think u forgot to compile it as a module when upgrading the kernel

I'm quite new bye, so i may say a stupid thing

I think this module is not for kernels 2.6 as in the FAQ's of the project says

- I get error messages about USB buses
If you're using Linux 2.6 (eg, SuSE 9.1, Mandrake 10, Fedora Core 2), these can be safely ignored; if they stop the modem from connecting on reboot, set LOAD_USBCODE=0 in /etc/speedtouch.conf

I don't know, may be i'm wrong. What can i do? Should i try to recompile the kernel with usbcore module?

PD: i have never upgrated the kernel. So i am quite frightened...

thanx

Hi ctux

Have you tried editing /etc/speedtouch.conf as mentioned? If that dosn't work (and to be honest I think your problem is different) I think your only choice will be to recompile the kernel, then you'll have a whole lot more reading to do (cool ay? )

I tried a few distros that didn't include all the modules required for this modem in the default kernel and some of them were also 2.6 kernels.

Good luck

Don't know if this will help but i've just re-installed Fedora core 2 on my m/c with the same modem and software you used and had exactly the same error. I checked the details in the suggested files and all were correct, i rebooted my m/c and then ran /etc/rc.d/init.d/speedtouch start and my connection worked. I rebooted again and ran through the speedtouchconf again to set up the autoconnect-at-startup feature. Reboot and try running the software again, the modem may have been busy the first time round

P.S. i have the same usbcore error and it doesn't affect anything as far as i know.
