Speakers beep when copying files

I have observed this on numerous occasions: When copying a large amount of files (taking at least a minute to copy), and listening to audio at the same time with XMMS, my speakers make short, high-pitched beeping sounds. I have a cord running from the (black) audio output on the back of my computer to my stereo system. Does anyone have any idea what could explain this beeping?

the black output is normally, rear surround speakers, try the green one (front or stereo).

Thanks, didn't know that. I have made the change, but the beeping is still occurring when I copy files.
