spca5xx missing my webcam model
Hi all,
I have a cheap generic webcam here what I'm having trouble getting recognised. lsusb says the following:
Unknown line at line 1809
Duplicate HUT Usage Spec at line 2650
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 0c45:613a
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Virtual Hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Virtual Hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:c00e Logitech Inc. Optical Mouse
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Virtual Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Virtual Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Virtual Hub
...which if I look on the spca5xx site the closest match is this:
PCcam168 0x0c45 0x613c
...only the last character is different. Other cameras that look identical to this one apparently work as that model, this one seems to be slightly updated somehow. Is it possible to modify the source to get this recognised or is there another driver/module I should be looking at?
Edit: This webcam would be handy as they are common as mud and very cheap - perfect for an application where I am wanting to use many of them.

Of course you can modify the source. It is linux. How much programming experience ya got?
You can write your own driver too, and distribute it for all to use.
Course, if it is a cheap and common webcam, it's probably also not very good. So people probably skipped over writing anything for it as they tend to want the fancy things to work first

I've got no C programming - been successfully avoiding it up until now but I have done a huge amount of php and such so i'll take a look and see if it's a simple edit to get it working.

I've found that the newer versions of the driver don't support all the older cameras. I have an old Logiteck clicksmart 310 that I use for a web cam (because as a digital camera it's pathetic). Only the Oct. 1 2005 release of the driver recognizes the camera. Newer releases don't. the file name is spca5xx-20051001.tar.gz. You can find it on the driver's author's website. Look for the link to previous versions. And try one of those.

Thanks for the suggestion, just had a look but there doesn't seem to be this camera listed.
I tried doing a quick and dirty copy/paste of the pccam168 (which this camera is installed as in windows) and modified the usb id's to the same as my camera. This allows the camera to be detected but when I try spcaview it says "Sensor sn9c102P Not found". So I have emailed the author for any help on finding out what sensor it is in hopes that I can just copy the relevent parts from a different camera listing.
If anyone has any ideas on getting info like that without actually taking the thing to bits, please post!

Yeah, Mine was only listed as experimental with that driver. Guess some it didn't work with. But mine did. Just lucky I guess. Maybe try another revision.
