Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Spare HD reading problem

I have a 160gb HD (replaced with 500gb) which I have put in a case and use it as extra storage for Windows and for Ubuntu. This has been ok for a year or two but now XP can't see the HD any more but Ubuntu can which is how I know the HD is ok.

There is a lot of work plus other media on the disk which I cannot get to as Ubuntu only reads the Linux stuff. I can't remember doing anything to make this happen, is this a case shed a tear or two for the contents of the disc and reformat or is there another way?? Thanks.

In your other thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...6/#post4007926 you were told that GNU/Linux supports a lot of file systems, even proprietary ones like NTFS, so that shouldn't pose a problem. It would be good if you checked /var/log/messages for any HW-related errors (best done right after a reboot) and post disk layout with 'fdisk -l'.
