Sounds delayed slightly in games

After installing a couple games like Planetpenguinracer and Frozen Bubble. But the sound is delayed a little bit. When I move the menu selection in Frozen Bubble, the sound effect doesn't occur until maybe 1 second after. This is an improvement because the only way I was able to get sound in games before was to disable the KDE sound system! So I don't really know what to do. I guess I'm running ALSA (I have so many output options in kcontrol so I leave it on autodetect since most of them don't even work anyway). Gaim and XMMS output through Arts (and I'd be interested to know why my entire system just can't output through arts. I think then my life would be wonderful.
