SoundMAX sound card driver on Toshiba A15

Im trying to get back into linux slowly, i do not plan on putting it on my main computer so I am trying to put it on my laptop. I managed to install Slackware 10.0, everything is working great except, my sound. I looked hard for drivers for it across the net and came up with nothing. Some people recommended Alsa, although im not exactly sure what it is, im pretty sure slack comes with it. Im running Kernel version 2.4.26 if that helps. Any help
