hi, its been a very long time that ive been trying to hear any noise/sounds from my laptop.
all i can do is hear audio comin from audio cds and console beeps - very limiting.
as u will see from the profile o mine, its a sis7012. im running the 2.4.22 kernel, and have enabled support for sound and i810. thats it. (should i have enabled support for oss modules?)
then i inserted the i810_audio and ac97 codec modules, and lsmod shows:
as you can see, no soundcore module - and thats what my question is about.
when i do a sndconfig, it gives an error, a small part of which is "soundcore.o was not found in the module search path".
welcome to the club, i'd say...
so, here's how it goes: it's those damn intel 8x0 ac'97 onboard sound cards...if you have ALSA drivers, you should be ok - just run alsamixer and unmute SURROUND (and don't ask why ); if your distro's default drivers are oss, then you'll have to download the appropriate alsa driver, utils and libs tar files and install them - and do the mixer thing again...
you're lucky, really, i hear ONLY damn console beeps...
i have problem no.2 and haven't resolved it...but i'll try again...
when i copy soundcore.o into the /lib/modules, and i try to load it using modprobe, it gives me an error. modinfo souncore reads it fine, but gives a warning that its doesnt do something something with typed commands, and iget no info really from modinfo like "<name>:alan cox" or anything (which i get if i use the soundcore.o from the older 2.4.18 kernel).
and when i try to run/install alsa, akll sounds stop. i cant use aumix or anything as it gives me a "soundslot not found" err. and thge ever persistent "/etc/modules.conf is later than /lib/..../modules.dep"
