Soundcard detection problems

I am working with Fedora Core 1
I have an onboard AC97 or what ever, and a Soundblaster Live.

Both are seen, and displayed as being installed in the Soundcard detection tool, but only the soundblaster ever plays...I used to have the same but opposite problem in RedHat.

So this is what happens,
First the naming is wrong!!! about 50% of the time it reverses the label for the sound cards, so it says soundblaster but isn't referring to that device.

No matter what I do no sound ever seems to come out of the AC97 onboard card in linux...though in RH7.2 it used to be the other way around.

I don't know where to start to solve this problem...I know both soundcards work in WinXP.

why would you need more than 1 sound device?

I have a Turntable connected to a mixer. I want my computer hooked up to the same mixer. But I also want to hook up my mixer to my computer to play through my soundcard...it gives me the ability to record from my mixer or play through the speakers. There are many reasons to have 2 soundcards...the question should be why wouldn't you want 2 or more soundcards

I think I may have fixed it, but I'm still having soundcard Identification problems.
