Soundcard detection Mandrake


Dell Inspiron Laptop Celeron 1.5ghz
Mandrake 10.1 new install
SigmaTel soundcard not detected on installation, suggested use harddrake to find after install.

What is where is hardrake?

Used sndcfig and alsaconfig to look for the soundcard. Boh searched but nil.

Suggestions please.............

Harddrake is the hardware setup utility in Mandriva (formely Mandrake) utility. you can acces it from hyhe GUI: K menu-System-Setup-Pc setup (or something like this I use another language then english...) klick on it and you'll be asked for the root password, enter it there you would find a Hardware menu. From here can you set up and modify your hard spec.
But I sugest to use a newer distro they got a much better hardware support you can simply upgrade to Mandriva 2006 and you won't use your settings (you may have to reset some things like internet) or any of your data!

Sound detection

Thanks, I found Harddrake and listed the components....No sound card only I/O audio hub under "others"

Mandriva

Thanks for the info on Mandriva. If I use that on my desktop which has Suse loaded will it keep all my data??
