soundblaster pci 16 in slack
I have tried doing what the other posts have said to do to make the sb16 pci card work but no luck. modprobe sb... gives me the following
/lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o.gz: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o.gz: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o.gz: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o.gz: insmod sb failed
pnpdump says its trying a bunch of port addresses and the no board found
dmesg says:
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards...
isapnp: No Plug & Play device found
Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
sb: No ISAPnP cards found, trying standard ones...
sb: dsp reset failed.

Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996

I have tried editing isapnp.conf but to no success
I was wondering if it has something to do with this being a pci card and not an isa card
I know the card does work because it worked when i used redhat unless it somehow broke during the slack install or something weird

The sb module works almost strictly with ISA cards, what's the output of "/sbin/lspci" as regards to the sound card.
Remember, a lot of cards from about... oh 94'-2000 pasted soundblaster all over the box and were 1 of about 7 chipsets.
Cheers,

the only output of /sbin/lspci that would pertain to my soundcard is
00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI (rev 02)

Okay, a 5880, I can't remember which one it is, but offhand its covered by one of these three:
emu10k1
es1371
es1370
I think its the emu, although Slackware quirks, by default, are going to have the output device, and possibly the mixer device (if this module opens one), chmod'ed so only root can use it.
chmod 666 /dev/dsp
should fix the problem.
Cheers,

Ensoniq 5880 AudioPC is the chip on the vibra 128 pci, "modprobe es1371" will get it up and running, and "modprobe es1371 joystick=0x200" will get the gameport working.
