I have a dell 4600, with integrated intel sound, it says it detects my sound card (intel ICH5) but no sounds will come out of the speakers at all, im running ubuntu 6.06

Ok, have you set the volume for master and pcm in your alsamixer?
If not open alsamixer and check the volume settings.
If there is a MM above the bar then hit M to unmute the channel.
When doen hit esc to exit
Login as root. ' su - '
Then do ' alsactl store '
