Sound trouble with Slack 12

Hi there. I'm having trouble getting my sound to work on Slackware 12. It's a gateway laptop and the sound is onboard AC97 audio. I went through the alsaconf program and everything seemed to work just fine. When I try to play music in Amarok I can even see the analyzers moving but no sound. I checked alsamixer and the volume is turned up and unmuted. Thanks for the help!

Hi rippler2k3, Welcome to lq. Do you have sound in any other applications? Have you run alsamixer to unmute your sound? If so please issue the following commands and post the output here.
Code:
/sbin/lspci -v | grep audio
/sbin/lsmod | grep snd
cat /proc/asound/cards
cat /proc/asound/oss/sndstat
We're looking for an alsa emulation line in that last command.
Good luck. ;-)

I suspect that Synth/Midi config stuff might have something to do with it?

Are you a member of the audio group? What are the permissions on /dev/snd?
Good luck. ;-)
