Got an intel-hda card, but the sound is very soft. I use Ubuntu hoary, and Alsa-driver 1.0.9b. Went into alsa-mixer and checked volumes are on and not mute. Some threads suggest to unmute PCM, but I do not have such a setting. All other volumes is set to max as well. I did install the newest utils, oss and lib, all of them at 1.0.9.
Anyone with a fair idea what went wrong. In Multmedia selector, Oss sink is not working, but ESS and Alsa gave about the same volume.
Try going (in the mixer), to Edit > Prefrences, and activate all the options.
Than turn the sound down all the way, and see if there is an external amplifier setting. Try diffrent settings with it, and slowly turn the volume up.
If you have a different set of speakers, try those. Try replacing the cord, etc. Heck, if you have another sound card, try that -- so at least we know what works and what we can be ruled out.
