Question sound + rpm files

I've installed SuseLinux v10.1 KDE and now the soundmixer only indicates "capture" for playing and for recording (Conexant CX8811).
My soundcard is a 5.1 Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS and has been installed by Linux as Card no. 0 with SB Audigy 2 ZS (SB0350) with program snd-emu10k1.

However, there's no sound at all, everything has been connected properly, when I installed Gnome first I had some sound, but it's hard to get along with Gnome so I re-installed Linux with KDE. However, after restart Gnome didn't play any sound.

SuseLinux 10.1 with KDE is interesting, but let's be clear, I like to have sound. Whenever I start up a CD or e.g. an mp3 file, the AmaroK player started, but without any sound.

What can I do about it? Is anyone available to solve this problem?

Another question: when I install rpm-files (Yast) everything is installed OK. But then, how can I find back the installed programs?

About Wine, I've got some specific Microsoft related programs such as CorelDraw, I read I can install this and open this thru Wine without needing Windows anyway. How to activate Wine, so that I can install CorelDraw and open it? If I have to download Wine, it'll probably be a rpm-file, then again, after installation, how can I find it back and activate it?

Oh yeah, how to play DVDs, programs tell me I need a special plugin, where to find and how to install and again, find it back?

Many many thanks.

I am new to Linux, and I am using RH Fedora Core 5, so I might be misleading , but I will try.
Should be a soundcard detection from the menu,Mine is under administration at least you should be able to see how it is identified and set up, if you have gnome and kde installed, log out and into a gnome session and check it there too, maybe you can see the difference in detection and setup.
On the RPM question
If you run the .rpm, you should be able to use the
whereis cmd from a terminal, it should give you the path.
On the WINE question, Not all programs will work with WINE to see if you have it installed.
Use this command:
rpm -q wine
If a Wine version is installed you will get a return:
wine-20030508-1rh9winehq
This is the version for Red Hat 9.
Here is a couple of good WINE howto pages

CODEWEAVERS makes a good program to assist in running in the MUST have programs
