Sound resets to LOUD after reboot!

Hi all,

Simple question no doubt.......

Can anybody tell me where the my soundcard config file lives?

After reboot the settings always revert to full volume. I can change them using a mixer but after restarting it's eardrum wrecking time!

I'm running Red Hat 8.

It depends on what mixer you are using. Which desktop are you running? KDE or Gnome? g-mixer, kmix, arts, all of them will dump whatever changes you make unless you specifically save them under whichever menu tab.

Who should I refer to?

anyways, try with adding:
xset b off [turn off]
or
xset b [1-100] <- volume !!
to: .xinitrc or .xsession

if you find that difficult, go to preferences>sound> you will have an option to disable the sounds for events
