Sound problems on Siemens Scaleo 600
Has anyone got an idea how to get sound running on a Siemens Fujitsu Scaleo 600?
My SUSE Plugger tells me, that it has a Silicon Integrated Systems controller, ID 1sCg.NgykMHwpej4 I/O Ports 0x1400-0x14ff (rw) and 0x1000-0x107f (rw) IRQ 18 I am running SUSE Linux 9.1 Thanks for support, Jens |
could you post the output of
/sbin/lspci -v and lsmod these commands should be typed in a terminal, or konsole. copy and paste the results here. good luck. |

My machine also has a card reader unit for diverse card types - MMC cards etc. This also I never got to be recognized by my Linux. Thanks for help Jens |
looks like the modules are loaded, have you tried running a mixer and unmuting sound?
|
Yes, I tried to start the mixer I used as standard on my old Linux PC under SUSE 9.0. It is KAMix.
It replies: "Did not find any soundcard" And now my knowledge ends. Thanks for further advice. |
i believe yast has a sound configuration tool, have you tried that? the fact that the modules are loaded, leads me to believe that all you need to do is configure the card. i'm not sure how suse works w/alsa, since it has the yast tool, you could also try from a terminal as root alsaconf, if suse has alsa installed.
good luck. |
Yes SUSE works with ALSA.On Suse ALSA is the default and YAST tries to setup all for ALSA.
The problem is, that when I go to the YAST sound configuration, it shows the list of "soundcards". In this list one item appears: sound controller I think that is still ok, because the controller is on the Mainboard. When I press configurate then, it reports (I translate to english): "The kernel module snd-intel8x0 for sound support could not be loaded. A possible reason could be wrong module parameters as well as invalid IO or IRQ parameters." As far as I could find out the snd-intel8x0 seems to be the default for AC97 controllers, but I am completely lost with these "wrong module parameters as well as invalid IO or IRQ parameters". Still ideas? |
are you certain that the card works? could be an irq problem, i'll have to do a little reading.
good luck. |
hi!
I`m running Arch Linux on my Siemens Scaleo 600. The first time i had the same Problems with my sound. I had insert my Boxes into the "GREEN" adapter on the front/back. Therefor my sound works with windows but won´t work with Linux. Than i insert my Boxes into the "BLUE" adapter on the back and happily my sound works. I hope u had the same problems and i could help you. |
Sorryto ask such silly questions: What is IRQ??
Concerning ARCH Linux: Which sound system does it use? ALSA? Thanks Jens |
