Sound problems in F16
Greetings. I have sound through my system finally when playing a CD. However, there is no sound for internet video or You Tube. I also have no sound when I play a DVD. Again, there is video but no sound. I use Firefox with F16. Thanks for your help..:banghead:

It sounds (to me) like you've not installed (or, perhaps, just not checked) the settings of the pulse audio mixer. (Or ALISA mixer if you're using ALISA on top of pulse.) IIRC, the mixer(s) default to a "zero" volume setting, and that sounds like what you're hearing.
The CD audio is often handled by hardware, bypassing your OS. |
sound problems in F16
Hello. I went into alsamixer and went through all the controls to toggle between mute and sound. I downloaded a different video player. The video is perfect; the audio is null. What do I attempt next? Thanks.

what music codecs did you install?
fedora ONLY ships with the FREE and NON-patent-encumbered codec's things like mp3 are NOT free and so are NOT included in fedora , and never will be on the fedora forum IN YELLOW text in the TOP middle of the page - hard to miss-- "Fedora Set-Up Guides" http://www.fedoraforum.org/ Dangermouse's Autopluse script Or you might want to see Mjmwireds page http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f16.html http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...a-f16.html#mp3 http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...l#mediaplayers I have never had problems using the firefox "gecko-mediaplayer" plugin |
Thanks for your help. I did manage to follow the instructions and get my external DVD player to actually play audio with the DVD. Now, how do I get audio to work inside Firefox browser? Can you assist me, please? Thanks. RAJ

this is fedora so Firefox will default to the fedora default totam-plugin
did you install the good, bad, and ugly gstreamer programs and take a look in Code:
about:plugins and see what is being used |
It's a no go; I am really baffled with this issue. I have followed your instructions and played around with Firefox plugins and researched forums and the support pages. Still I have not resoved this issue of not being able to hear video that within the internet. Audio plays fine with DVDs and CDs, but nothing on the internet in Yahoo or ESPN or any other site. What do you suggest, now? Thanks

ok is this the DEFAULT install of firefox? ( ? i think it is 7 )
or did you manually install 10.02 or use the remi repo if manually how did you take care of the plugins i DO RECOMMEND using the "autopluse" program from DangerMouse Dangermouse wrote it FOR new to linux ( and fedora) users Also is this a 32 bit install or 64 bit install ? if a 64 bit fedora 16 is this a 32 bit or 64 bit friefox ? |
I checked the Firefox version to find it is 10.01 version. Thanks, and I am working on your other suggestion/comments. RAJ

Sorry, it is 32-bit on both. RAJ

This may be a little late, but . . .
I don't use sound much, so I just noticed that my F16 sound was not working. Here's how I fixed it (after some poking around):
Moral: The Mixer has too many controls. Make sure to check all of them. |
