I have a SoundBlaster 16 PCI card which I was assured works on Linux. I installed it, and all was well. I also have an onboard Nvidia chip installed.
...
Or so I thought.
Before I start, I warn you I am extremely new to Linux, and I know very little about anything.
Well, GAIM sounds work perfectly. But CD player isn't working (possibly because it is looking for a CD in dev/cdrom, and the CD-ROM drive I have the CD in is mnt/cdrom3/? I don't know how to tell it that), xmms isn't working (xmms just won't play. It loads the file, but then when I press play, it just sits there.), and when. I tried homestarrunner.com, it played, but very, very choppily. When I play Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory fragland.net/index.php?page=downloads&did=834 (As this is my first post, I can't post a URL, so if you want to see/download that game, you can cut/paste that into an address bar), I have VERY choppy sound (But also video, I don't have the Nvidia drivers installed yet... But that's for another thread.
)
Do I need to uninstall one of my soundcards? (I'm assuming that, if so, it should be my onboard one. if I need to, I need a push in the right direction as far as how to do it)
I hope I gave enough information for someone to be able to help me solve my problem. Thank-you in advance!
~Brian
EDIT: Oh well. When I installed the Nvidia driver for my video card, my sound problem fixed itself. How very odd..
