Ok here goes. I just installed mandrake linux 9.0 to my comp and im really really new to linux. I have a Cirrus Logic CS 4280 sound card but linux detects a Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24. My sound dosnt work. Whenever I turn on my speakers I hear a buzzing sound whenever I move the mouse. I have the sound card installed and working in windows. I also found a Cs 4281 Driver off the net, thats the closest match ive found to my sound card. So can anyone point me in the right direction towards a CS 4280 driver or give me instructions on how to install the 4281 driver? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Crystal CS 4280 sound card thats amde by Cirrus Logic. Umm I hate to sound completely stupid but im a newbie when it comes to linux, whats lsmod?

I have a similar problem with my sound on RedHat 8.0.
i have a Gigabyte motherboard with onboard AC97 Via chipset. During installation, VIA VT82C686 AC97 audio is detected. When i click PLAY A TEST SOUND it does not work. there is no way to modify any setting for it, so i click NEXT and go on with the install. when i start KDE, it tells me that /dev/dsp cannot be found. i have tried to use /dev/dsp0, and /dev/dsp1 also. none of these work. I go look around in the config areas and VIA VT82C686 AC97 is detected. Any suggestions as to how to make it work?
also, a friend of mine has the exact same on-board Via sound chipset on an AOpen/intel mainboard. he told me his functioned properly during the initial setup and it is still working now.

I just got AC'97 working with Alsa and this is the first time I got it working under linux using Slackware 8.0, next I gotta get it working with Debian 3.0.
I'm having the exact same problem in Mandrake 9.0. The driver and everything seems to be there, but still no sound. This is my sound card according to lsmod, Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator]. The hardware specs for this computer says that it is a CS4280 and the link from the post from Siddiqu says that CS4280 is included in the CS 4614/22/24 driver package. Is there some setting that I'm missing? I've checked the volumes and connections at leat 3 times. No one seems to have posted here for a while, but maybe this will help someone else out.
