I don't know what sound card the Gigabyte K7 uses but you should be able to add yourself to the group that owns /dev/sound so you don't have to change the permissions every time you boot. This group is often called "audio", but check what group owns the sound devices on your system (
ls -l will list owner and group).
Open up /etc/group (as root, of course) in your favorite text editor and find the line corresponding to your sound group name. It might look like this:
Add your login name after the last colon character. You can have a comma-separated list there, so if we're adding the "hw" and "capheind" users we would edit the line to look like this:

Save the file, and log out. Log in again and you should be able to play sounds as yourself without having to change any permissions.
