I've installed ALSA i8x0 driver for my SIS7012 sound chipset of my P4S8X motherboard...
Everything goes fine except that I can't adjust the level. In fact, only the pcm mixer works and if I put it on 0, I have no sound, and when I put it on 1 or more, the sound is at the maximum level !

Can someone help me ??
you are using alsa
go to /etc
vim asound.state
make necessary changes
(like choosing the volume level you like)
now
alsactl restore
you get your desired volume
