sound problem - mic

Hi everyone.

I have just installed skype and although the sounds and mic works in M$ Windows the mic does not work in my linux. I want so much for it to work in linux. I run on my Toshiba laptop A100 suse 10. The sound works fine and I have taken much time to get the other hardware working.

When I open QAmix0.0.7 capture source is mic. In K record input level is at 21.46db and dead, does not move at all. Alsa mixer reads card: HDA intel Chip: Realtek ID 861

In Alsa mixer, there is no volume for mic and I can not make any changes. Capture has a volume control, but can not change it at all. With the help of you guys on linuxquestions, you have solved many of my problems, and hope once again someone can assist me

-perhaps even has had the same type of error?

Another option I am looking at it to buy a USB headset. My reasoning is I want to use Skype. But after some time spent on the net I have trouble to find one which will work fine with SUSE10. Any advice on a headset would be appreciated. Also any help to fix the original problem, will obviously save me money
