sound problem in ubuntu


Hi,

I have a sound problem in ubuntu.
When i get in ubuntu i hear the startupsound, i can go on teamspeak and i hear everything, but when i want to play a mp3 there is no sound.

i run Ubuntu dapper beta and i have a soundcard onboard realtec ac97

what could i do to go on teamspeak and listen to an mp3 at the same time

Two things I have done to solve similar problems in both Mandriva and Ubuntu are:

1. As root, execute

alsactl restore
2. Execute
Code:
esd
(and you'll be told if esd is already running or not). I generally do both these things when the same problem arises, and maybe 75% of the time one or the other fixes the problem.
