Sound Problem in RH 7.3
Hi,
For quite sometime, I was using RedHat 7.1 and I was enjoying music quite well. I am having a OPL3-SAx sound card which was automatically detected during the RH7.1 installation. Now, I installed RH7.3 and my sound card, although detected properly, is not functioning at all. Also, when going into KDE 3.0, I am getting an Error/Warning MsgBox saying that /dev/dsp is not functioning blah-blah-blah. Can any please help in getting music in RH7.3? Thanks in advance. rgds, Vatsan |
what does sndconfig do?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I tried sndconfig it comes upto the screen where it says "a sample sound would be played now". Then it says there is an error opening /dev/audio. In RH 7.1 I used to get the sample sound too. Also I never needed to go through sndconfig manually as KUDZU used to identify and recognize the soundcard automatically (in the first time) during boot-up itself. Hope this gives you a hint. Thanks and rgds, Vatsan |

Hi,
Many thanks for your help. But I found out the problem yesterday in a different way. I checked modules.conf and found that a wrong moudle was specified for my OPL3SAx card. I replaced that entry with opl3sa2 and rebooted my linux. VOILA I got music back in my linux box. Somehow, RH7.3 does not properly recognize my soundcard. BTB, opl3sa2.o is one of the soundcard modules under the kernel directory (don't know exactly). Once again, Thanks for all your help. rgds, Vatsan |
