Sound Problem DFI 250gb onboard

I have sound right now, but it's not without it's problems. It's using alsa, but thats about all I know. Taken from the dfi website it uses the Realtek ALC850 8CH audio CODEC. Other than that I don't know much. It's using the Intel8x0 driver according to alsa.

The problems I'm having are missing sounds, sometimes the sound is very garbled. In gaim it will sometimes just stop playing sounds all together. No sound in Doom 3. I can play more than one sound file at once though, I played an mp3 and then imed someone and I got sound. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks.

Could you please post the output from /sbin/lspci -v, and /sbin/lsmod?
good luck.

Ok, just noticed this. Still no sound in Doom 3, I don't really care about that though, I just want it to work right normally. What I noticed though is I will im someone and if the sound dosn't play then it will later, it will have like a 10 minuite delay though. Anyone ever experience this?!

Peacedog 03-01-2005 04:55 PM

You may want to try the nvidia drivers.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html

good luck.

kryptobs2000 03-01-2005 04:56 PM

there are no sound drivers there, just chipset drivers.

kryptobs2000 03-01-2005 05:08 PM

Nevermind, tried it out it does have audio drivers. However had a problem installing:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvsound.o'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source
files. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files
for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you
have the 'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct
kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source
path with the '--kernel-source-path' commandline option.

And

ERROR: Installation of the audio driver has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-nforce-installer.log' for details. You may find
suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available
on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

Peacedog 03-01-2005 05:08 PM

I could be wrong but, I believe the chipset drivers include nic, and sound chip support as well.
good luck.
